Flower-Powered Enduro Car Races For a Cause
On May first, opening night of the 2010 season at Delaware Speedway, race fans will have no trouble identifying the car being driven by Sarnia's Steve Domingue in the Transmission Direct Enduro race. It will be the only vehicle on the track covered with stick-on daisies. Domingue is supporting a former colleague whose Mom had been fighting a rare cancer, but, sadly, lost her battle earlier this month. Proceeds will go to The Canadian Cancer Society.
"She asked me to sponsor her for the Relay for Life and she asked me to help her with ideas for raising even more money. I thought about it and told her, I know what you can do. We'll cover my car in Daisies. Her team is called Darlene's Daisies."
Through a Facebook group and in person, Steve is selling the hand-sized faux flowers made by Sure Sign for five dollars each. After you buy a flower you sign your name to it and give it back so Steve can fix it to the car and you can symbolically circle Delaware's track with him.
Cancer truly does touch everyone's life. Steve's wife's five-year old nephew in Edmonton is currently undergoing treatment for leukemia and, thankfully, doing well. Darlene's family plans to be at Delaware for opening night to cheer as the car does its laps. Any remaining daisies will be available for sale on the night of the race.
"They've been going really well just through word of mouth and on Facebook. Search for Darlene's Daisies and you'll find the page and how you can get on board."
Meanwhile, Steve is anticipating another great season of racing with thanks to his major sponsor, Joe's Tire and to Sure Sign for their work on the stickers. Look for his flower-powered #3 Enduro car at Delaware Speedway on May first and consider buying a bloom to help make cancer history.
