A SEASON CELEBRATED By: John Houghton Announcer
The racers of Delaware Speedway returned to the Hellenic Centre on Saturday, October 24 for a formal evening celebrating the 2009-racing season.
The awards ceremony opened with a video highlight reel of the 2009 season by Checkered Flag Media before moving to the awards ceremony hosted by announcer Chris Soares. Present at the evening was Bob Duvall of NASCAR Racing Operations. Duvall expressed how important local racing is to NASCAR: “Local racing is incredibly important to NASCAR,” explained Duvall. “Tracks like Delaware Speedway makeup the lifeblood of NASCAR. We are very proud of all driver’s efforts in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.” Delaware Speedway was fortunate to host the only year-end awards banquet to be visited by a NASCAR official. Following the awards The Trevor Walsh Band played selections for the assembled competitors and their guests. Delaware Speedway would like to extend thanks and congratulations to the competitors this year. Below are the final awards listings from the 2009 season:

“The Spirit of Racing Award recognizes a person who exemplifies what this sport is all about. The award is named after Stan Harborne and Dave Lawrence who are no longer with us but honours their memory by celebrating their life and contributions to the racing community.
