On Friday, September 4, 2009 the famous $1,000 to Win King of the Hill Spectators Race returns in a big way at Delaware Speedway as part of the Great Canadian Race weekend.  With the support of Glen Fenwick Subaru, SPDA-Online.ca, Custom Auto Care of Sarnia and London Mechanical Plumbing & Heating the total prizing available at the event comes to $2,000, the highest prize money ever available at a King of the Hill event.

The King of the Hill Spectator’s race is one of the most popular events at Delaware Speedway.  The event allows spectators to compete with each other in one-on-one fun drag race type events around the half mile in street legal, street driven vehicles.

Each round the first place car advances while the second place car heads home.  The event is a charity based event, collecting a $5 donation from competitors towards Jesse’s Journey, a local charity that raises money through an endowment to fight Duchene Muscular Dystrophy.

"Grocery Getter" squares off against another challenger

This time the event will pay $1,000 to the winner, $600 to the runner up, and $400 to third.  Delaware Speedway would like to recognize Glen Fenwick Subaru, SPDA-Online.ca, Custom Auto Care of Sarnia, and Plumbing & Heating for their support of the King of the Hill program.

The first-ever $1,000 King of the Hill race took place on Friday, July 13, 2007.  Since then, Delaware Speedway’s message has continued to be clear: the streets are not for racing, but race tracks are.  The racetrack provides a controlled environment in which racing can be enjoyed in front of thousands of spectators and there is no finer place to race than Delaware Speedway.

Canada’s first weekly NASCAR sanctioned facility, Delaware Speedway is a half-mile paved oval stock-car track, located just five minutes outside London, Ontario, Canada. For more than 55 years, Delaware Speedway has been the home to some of the finest stock car racing in Canada.  Racing at Delaware features its four weekly racing divisions; APC Late Models, POWEARDE Modifieds, Delaware Super Stocks & Demar Aggregates Trucks, as well as a Transmission Direct Enduro Division (short for “Endurance”), the Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars and the Krown Junior Racing League. The track also hosts many touring classes throughout the summer.

Single-day and weekend passes for the September 4-6 Great Canadian Race Weekend are available through the speedway website www.delawarespeedway.com.
