Gearing Up for Two Days of Racing John Houghton Delaware Speedway PR August 12, 2009 Racing action at Delaware Speedway this weekend will feature two great days of racing. Friday night will feature NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action, while Saturday will feature the entry-level Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars and 150-Lap enduro. With free camping all weekend long, this weekend provides a great opportunity to enjoy the great summer weather at Canada's Finest Short Track. Friday evening is Exeter Toyota night featuring the JBM Auto Leasing Triple Crown Finale for the the APC Late Models. The JBM Auto Leasing Triple Crown is a three race series with a special $11,000 point fund separate from the regular Delaware Speedway fund. Friday’s race will settle the top drivers in that series, and has an added incentive of $3,000 being put in the race night prize fund by JBM Auto Leasing. The format will be twin 25’s with the first race lineup set straight up from the first lap of time trials, and the second race being set straight up from the second lap of time trials. Both races are full Delaware Speedway points races and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races. The second 25-lap race is the one that will settle the J.B.M. Auto Leasing Triple Crown champion. The Triple Crown Championship will likely be decided between one of three drivers. “Rocket” Ron Sheridan of Mt. Brydges leads the standings. Sheridan will be coming into Friday night fresh off a feature win and also leading the Delaware Speedway Championship points. Just one point behind Sheridan is “Showtime” Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester. Robblee has five feature race wins to his credit this season, compared to Sheridan’s three. With the points so close and the two drivers running so equally on the track, it may come down to time trials, which Robblee was not as successful in last week when he finished thirteenth, outside of points paying positions. Third in the chase for the JBM Triple Crown Championship is Jesse Kennedy (#10) of Southwold. Kennedy has one feature race win to his credit this season and sits ten points behind Robblee in the chase. Kennedy will have to have a stellar showing both in time trials and in the final 25-lap showdown to defeat both Robblee and Sheridan. The race becomes even more important for the drivers in the APC Late Model division as it is the second last race for that class of the year before the Total APC 300, providing drivers with a much needed testing opportunity. With an additional $3,000 loaded into the prizing for Friday night, it may bring some teams out to take advantage of the opportunity. The Total APC 300 is part of The Great Canadian Race Weekend on August 4, 5 & 6. Also racing on Friday evening will be the POWERADE Modifieds and Delaware Super Stocks. Jason Lidster (#11) of St. Thomas currently leads the Delaware Super Stock points with Darrel Lake (#77) of London just five points behind. The POWERADE Modifieds are led by Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester with Barry Newman (#1) of Springfield just fifteen points back. Gates for Friday’s race will open at 6:00 pm with racing beginning at 8:00 pm. Time trials for the APC Late Models will be at 7:30 pm. Tickets and reserved seats for Friday's event can be purchased here. Saturday’s racing presented by South End Truck Centre features the Transmission Direct Next-Generation Enduro and Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars. The Transmisison Direct Enduro points standings have both McCullough brothers sitting in the top-three. The points are currently led by David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe, running in second twenty-six points behind is Dave Goertz (#15) of Arkona and Derek McCullough (#38) of Glencoe ten points behind that. The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos cars are also set to do battle on Saturday. Bush Bomb (Spencer Rabideau) of Glencoe will face off against his rivals in a special Chaos Course format. The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars are the speedway’s entry-level, obstacle-course based class. Gates for Saturday’s race open at 6:00 pm, with racing beginning at 7:00 pm. Tickets and reserved seats for Saturday's event can be purchased here.
