JBM TRIPLE CROWN PRIZE INCREASE August 6, 2009 John Houghton
Prizing has been increased for the final JBM Auto Leasing Triple Crown race of the year. JBM Auto Leasing has injected an additional $3000 directly into the race night purse for the event. This comes in addition to the $11,000 on the line as the drivers wrap up their third JBM Triple Crown Points Race. All told, the additional prizing brings JBM’s total commitment to Delaware Speedway drivers to $14,000. With the special purse increase, if any driver is able to win both races, they would win $1,400. In cooperation with NASCAR, the JBM Auto Leasing event nights are a pair of 25-lap feature races. August 14 will be a historic race for the APC Late Models as the first race will be set on the driver’s first time trial lap, and the second race will be set based on their second time trial lap. To increase the challenge, there will also be a one dice inversion applied to each lineup. It is the first time at Delaware Speedway the time trials have been used in this way to lineup two races. This new use of time trials was arrived at through suggestions from NASCAR officials. The stakes are high in both races, with both Delaware Speedway and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series points on the line in the two 25-lap races. In the second 25-lap race, however, the stakes increase as it is the final event of the year that counts towards the $11,000 JBM Auto Leasing Triple Crown points fund. “Rocket” Ron Sheridan (#52) of Mt. Brydges is the current leader of the JBM Auto Leasing Triple Crown points heading into the final event. His next closest challenger is Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester who sits just one point behind Sheridan. Third is Southwold’s Jesse Kennedy, eleven points behind Sheridan. With the points so close, it will be anyone’s Triple Crown Championship to win come August 14. The timing of the race is perfect for Late Model competitors throughout the region. It provides a great opportunity for any Late Model competitor to come to the track for a good purse and the last tune up opportunity before the Total APC 300 on September 6. The APC Late Model’s next race is this upcoming Friday night, August 7. The division is running alongside the World’s Most Powerful Short Track Cars: The ISMA Super Modifieds. The ISMA cars are part of the two-day Tammy $10,000 weekend presented by Corr / Pak Merchandising, Sloan Insulations and Patco Transportation.
