It’s a two-day race weekend at Delaware Speedway kicking off on Friday night with Vintage Night presented by AM1410, and continuing into Saturday with the Transmission Direct Enduro.

The evening is also presented by Nerds On Site, who will be hosting their annual parade lap as well as Country Corner's Rent or Buy.

History is an important part of Delaware Speedway.  The facility opened in 1952 as a ¼-mile dirt track and is the longest continuously operating asphalt race track in Canada.  On Friday night, history comes home with the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds.

The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds are the oldest continuously active racing organization in Canada.  They originally raced under the name O.A.R.C., which stood for Ontario Amateur Race Club and are often called “The Hobby Club” or “Hobbies”.  The series is made up of old-styled coups and coaches from the 1920’s and 1930’s.  Phil Shaw (#0) took the win at the most recent event at Cayuga Speedway.  The race was a memorable one with drivers battling three-wide for the lead.

The evening will also feature a classic car cruise at 7:30 before the event, along with displays of vintage Delaware Speedway racing vehicles.

Racing on Friday features the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly classes of POWERADE Open-Wheel Modifieds and Delaware Speedway Super Stocks.

Many of POWERADE Modified drivers will be looking to rebound their fortunes after a crash this past week that left very few cars unscathed.  Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester is the current points leader, with Paul Shipway (#88) only thirteen points back after his recent back-to-back wins in the division.  Barry Newman (#1) of Springfield sits in striking distance, just two points behind shipway.

The drivers of the Delaware Speedway Super Stocks have found themselves in a very tight points battle.  Jeremy Reid (#76) of Kerwood is the current points leader with Jason Lidster (#11) of St. Thomas only six points back.  Darrel Lake (#77) of London and rookie driver Steve Smith (#84) of Arkona are tied for third just thirteen points back from the lead.  Smith is the most recent race winner and picked up a bonus ten championship points for winning a race as a rookie driver.  Brad Clark (#52) of Parkhill rounds out the top-five sitting eighteen points back from the leader.

Gates on Friday open at 6:00 pm, racing starts at 8:00 pm.

Saturday evening’s Transmission Direct event also promises to be an exciting event.  The new format has proven to be a hit with drivers and fans.  A pair of heat races and a final 150-lap feature is on schedule, with the Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars running between the heat and feature races.  David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe currently leads the points in the class with a twenty-five point lead over Richard Ainsworth (#744) of Blenheim.  Dave Goertz (#15) of Arkona won the previous event.  He sits just within the top-five points positions.

Pit gates on Saturday open at 5:00 pm, spectator gates at 6:00 pm, racing starts at 7:00 pm.

Camping is free in the Delaware Speedway campground all weekend long.  Admission prices on both days are $16 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, kids twelve and under are free to all events.  Tickets for both events are available at the gate through the speedway website, www.delawarespeedway.com where fans can choose reserved seating.  Do not miss out on two exciting days of racing at Canada’s finest short track: Delaware Speedway.
