READY TO LAUNCH ONCE MORE KEVIN OVERHOLT & THRONE KINGS PLAN A PAIR OF JUMPS THIS SEASON June 17, 2009 John Houghton Delaware Speedway PR
Sharp eyed Delaware Speedway fans may have noticed an exciting schedule addition this past week. The highly anticipated Throne King’s Ramp Jump dates have been officially announced.
The first of two jumps will take place on Friday July 3, 2009 on NewsTalk 1290 CJBK night. Kevin Overholt of Throne Kings plans to launch a Crown Victoria (and himself) off a ramp and through a 27’ camper trailer, as well as a second trailer placed crossways. The ramp jump will come as the finale of an exciting evening of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing featuring the POWERADE Modifieds, Demar Aggreagates Trucks and Delaware Super Stocks. As an added bonus, as the ramps for the jump are being set up fans will be treated to the wild Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars.
The second jump will take place on Saturday, September 26 as part of the Transmission Direct Enduro nationals. Because of the speeds necessary for that jump, a 5.8L V8 Ford Mustang has been specially prepared by Overholt and the students at Clarke Road Secondary School.
READY TO LAUNCH: Shop students from Clarke Road Secondary school prepared the September launch car. “We worked for two weeks with the students in Paul Roy’s shop class at Clarke Road. We stripped the car to bare metal, and it sanded it and had it painted by the students,” said Overholt. “Then it was decaled up with the Clarke Road name and Trojan logo. It’s ready to rock for September.”
Overholt also wished to extend a special thanks to Scott Hardy, who donated the Ford Mustang for the jump.
This year’s jumps are trials for what Overholt hopes will be a Guinness Book of World Records attempt in 2010. Tight lipped about the details of that attempt, Overholt indicated only that he is currently looking for additional trailers and RV’s that fans or partners may wish to donate for the attempt.
“There are many partners who came together to make this a reality,” said Overholt. “Ofners Auto Sales, Whitworth Towing, BDS Frame & Alignment, Rona (Commissioners & Highbury), A Daisy Limousine Services, Stewart Automotive, Paint Plus, AutoTrim Design, Ponderosa Campgrounds Thamesford, Crazy Night Productions, Cathcart Autoparts have all helped to make this possible.”
The first Throne King’s RV Jump called “End of the Empress” took place last year at the Transmission Direct Enduro Nationals as part of the Wreckreation Spectacular. A precision exercise, the jump went off picture perfect. It was the first stunt of its kind held at Delaware Speedway in recent memory.
