The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will return to Delaware Speedway on Saturday June 6, 2009.  The event completes what will be an exciting race weekend, with the Auto-Value Super Sprints running on Friday evening.

The announcement comes with the release of the schedule for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.  The schedule features thirteen dates at twelve different tracks across six provinces.  The series runs May through October and is the premier racing series in Canada and home to the nation's top driving talent.

Delaware Speedway was considered the home-track for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, formally known as the CASCAR Super Series.  The Series ran regular events at the track from 1986 until 2005.  This year’s return will be the first stop at Delaware for the series in three years.

“The event feels like a coming home of sorts for Delaware and the series,” said Delaware Speedway Public Relations Director John Houghton.  “The Nascar Canadian Tire Series has been on the top of fan-requested events over the past few seasons.  We’re thrilled at the opportunity to bring the series to our fans.”

The last time the series visited was on September 5, 2005 on the Sunday of the Great Canadian Race Weekend under the CASCAR banner.  Peter Gibbons was the winner of that final race, followed by Don Thompson Jr. in second and Jeff Lapcevich in third.  The 2009 event will be the first time the series has raced at Delaware with the NASCAR name.

The announcement comes on the heels of successful weekend at Daytona International Speedway by two Delaware Speedway and NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Drivers.  J.R. Fitzpatrick finished fourth in the Camping World Truck Series and D.J. Kennington who finished seventeenth in the Nationwide event.

Delaware Speedway also recently rejoined the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  The move brought the track back into NASCAR’s North American network of hometown speedways across the United States and Canada.

Delaware Speedway is a half-mile paved oval stock-car track, located just west of London, Ontario, Canada. For more than 55 years, Delaware Speedway has been the home to some of the finest stock car racing in Canada. Its unique natural amphitheatre-like setting allows a family or group of friends to enjoy an exciting, comfortable and affordable night of entertainment.
