The two-day season finale weekend has arrived!

Friday evening will play host to the only Canadian stop for the extremely fast ISMA Super Modifieds presented by Patco Transportation, and Saturday the Demar Nationals 300 and Throne Kings Make-a-Wish Wreckreation Spectacular.

The ISMA Super Modifieds have been quite the crowd pleaser in recent years.  2008 marks the third year in a row the coveted series has graced the Delaware half-mile after a previous twenty-year absence.

Once again this year’s event will feature NASCAR Star Johnny Benson.  Benson is the current points leader in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.  Included in his list of accomplishments are being voted 2006 and 2007 as the most popular driver in the Craftsman Trucks, as well as 1995 Champion of the NASCAR Busch (Nationwide) Series.  An autograph session for the ISMA Super Modifieds will be held before the event.

Canadians were well represented on the podium at last year’s Delaware Speedway event with only one American making it into the top-five.  Last year’s race was won by local Dave McKnight of Brampton, Ontario, who broke second-place finisher ISMA Champion Chris Pearly’s winning streak.  Third was Ryan Litt of Lyons, Ontario.  Fourth and fifth were two other Canadian home-track favorites, Mark Sammut and Mike Lichty.

The POWERADE Open-Wheel Modified Championship race is also scheduled for Friday evening.  Mark Watson (#20) of St. Thomas will be attempting to win his second consecutive championship.  He currently leads seven-time champion Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester by thirteen points, and Barry Newman (#1) of Springfield by sixteen.

Along with the racing action, Friday will also see country music star Jamie Warren presenting the national anthems with the support of Country Favourites BX93.  Warren is currently promoting his new album “Right Here Right Now” and will be available throughout the evening on the concourse.

The highly anticipated Country Corners Rent-All ATV Draw is also set to take place on Friday evening.  Throughout the season each race night fans have had the opportunity to qualify for the chance to take home the Arctic Cat ATV.  The finalists will each be given a key down on the front straightaway - - but only one key will start the ATV.  The fan with the key that starts the machine will be its lucky new owner!

Gates for Friday’s event open at 6:00 PM, autograph session runs from 6:50-7:30 PM, racing starts at 8:00 PM.

Saturday’s event presented by Demar Aggregates promises to be like no other in recent memory.  The day sets itself up as two events in one: the Transmission Direct Demar Nationals 300, and the Throne Kings Make a Wish Wreckreation Spectacular!

The Transmission Direct Demar Nationals 300 is the most prestigious Transmission Direct Enduro race of the year.  Steve Book (#64) of Brantford was the winner of last year’s Demar Nationals event.  This year’s race sees special prizing bonus of over $2,000 from Demar Aggregates in special bonuses for the top-5 drivers and the driver who finishes in 28th position (courtesy of L82 construction).  These bonuses are paid above and beyond the regular Delaware Speedway purse.

As well as the Demar Aggregates bonuses, Transmission Direct will be presenting a competitor with a brand new transmission for the enduro vehicle.  Drivers have entered into the draw each time they passed tech during the season.  The draw will take place in victory lane for the Transmission Direct Enduro race.  The winning driver will work with Transmission Direct to find a transmission that will be the most effective with their vehicle.

After a season that surpassed all expectations, the Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos cars are set to open the day with their most ‘chaotic’ format of the year.  What will the format be?  You’ll have to be there to find out.  Formats are kept secret from fans and competitors until the day of the event.  Preparations and construction are underway for the Ultimate test of the Chaos driver’s skill and determination.

The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Car event will also see the debut of a new Chaos Car called “Demar Nationals”.  The vehicle has been the focus of a fundraising campaign for the Make-A-Wish foundation where fans who made a donation were entered into a draw to become a “driver for a day”!  The lucky winner will be formally announced on Wednesday.

The second part of the event is the Throne Kings Make-A-Wish Wreckreation Spectacular featuring Demolition Derby cars and an RV called “Empress”.  The Wreckreation Spectacular is a three-stage event:

a) Target Tantrum (10-Laps)

The RV "Empress" will circle the track at a pre-determined speed with derby cars and drivers will fighting for position to get in line with the target on the left side of the "Empress". Drivers will attempt to score points by hitting targets with paintballs on the side of the RV "Empress" down the backstretch.  The driver with the most paintballs on target wins.

b) Figure 8 and No Survivors Showdown

Remaining derby cars will compete first in figure 8 style derby on the front stretch of 10 laps. Remaining cars will qualify to compete in the final demolition derby “NO SURVIVORS SHOWDOWN”.

c) “End of the Empress” (Destroying the RV)

Kevin “Launch” Overholt will pilot a vehicle over a ramp and through the RV - - thus ending 2008 season in style!

With all this action on tap, it’s sure to be a day to remember at Delaware Speedway.  Gates for Saturday’s event open at 1:00 PM, racing starts at 2:00 PM.  DON’T MISS IT!
