Robblee Wins 50-Lap Special!

July 25, 2008

John Houghton

Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester won the 50-lap APC Late Model Special Friday evening at Delaware Speedway.  Robblee led from the outset of the event with John Urlin (#4) of London in tow.  Urlin would later be passed by “Rocket” Ron Sheridan (#52) of Mt. Brydges on lap 27.  Sheridan would continue behind Robblee’s #28 until his #52 suffered a flat tire.  Urlin would return to second position where he would finish, third was Dion Verhoeven (#77) of Kerwood.

The first of two 25-lap POWERADE Open-Wheel Modified feature races was won by Barry “The Bear” Newman (#1) of Springfield.  The race opened with a caution flag on the first lap that sent “Smiling” Stephen Richmond (#24) of Appin into the pits.  When the race resumed Darrel Limon (#54) of Watford was in the lead.  Newman would move to second position but would later be passed by Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester.  Cox would run into trouble on lap 12 in an incident between him and Limon.  Newman would inherit the lead after the crash and move on to the win.  Second was Dan Prudhomme (#96) of Ingersoll, and third was Mark Watson (#20) of St. Thomas.

In the second POWERADE Open-Wheel Modified feature race, Jamie Cox (#3) of Dorchester would come back from his segment one crash to take the win.  Cox took the lead from Barry Newman (#1) of Springfield on the first lap and was able to lead the remainder of the event.  Newman would finish second with Mark Watson (#20) in third.

Time trials earlier in the evening were won by Jesse Kennedy (#10) of Southworld in the APC Late Models (18.803 seconds) and Mark Watson (#20) of St. Thomas (19.050).

The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified event was won by Darrell Henwood (#19) of Paris, ON followed by Jason Dinsmore (#62) of Aurora, ON and Phil Shaw (#0) of Orangeville.
