A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

July 21, 2008

If there’s one division that can turn heads at whatever track it goes to, that division would have to be the Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds.  This Friday at Delaware Speedway fans of all ages will get to take a trip down memory lane and see these vintage style race cars compete at Delaware Speedway.

“We’re very excited about this event,” said Announcer John Houghton.  “This touring series really takes us back to the old days of racing and gives us a glimpse of what the racing used to look like.  Many fans today weren’t even born when these types of cars were on the track and to the younger generation it represents a link to that past.”

Racing heritage has always been important at Delaware Speedway, which is tied for the oldest continuously operating speedway in Canada.  This season is Delaware Speedway’s 57th year of operation.  The Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modifieds (or “Hobbies” as they are sometimes called) are celebrating their 40th anniversary this season.

The last Lucas Oil Canadian Vintage Modified race at Delaware Speedway was June 30, 2006.  The event, which was won by Phil Shaw, was a Canadian-American challenge event that saw numerous drivers from both sides of the border compete.

Adding to the event are special 50-lap races for both the APC Late Models and POWERADE Open-Wheel Modifieds.  Both divisions will time trial and see if they can break the track record at 7:30 PM.  Gates open at 6:00 PM, the main race program starts at 8:00 PM.  You won’t see racing this intense on television, don’t miss a lap!
