GOERTZ WINS AFTER CLOSING LAP DUEL WITH BOOK

June 14, 2008

John Houghton

It was old time stock car racing at its finest in the closing laps of the Transmission Direct Enduro 250 Saturday evening at Delaware Speedway.  Dave Goertz (#15) of Arkona won the event.  In the closing laps he and Steve Book (#64) of Brantford traded the lead back and forth in an attempt to be the first to the checkers.  Book would go on to finish second.  The race contained three red flags, one of which was for an incident between brothers Derek McCullough (#38) of Glencoe and David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe.  Both drivers were able to limp their vehicles to the infield, with only David returning to competition.  Fourth in the event was Steve Smith (#84) of Arkona and fifth was John Lynch (#4) of Blenheim.

The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Car event was won by Snot Rod (Tyssen Toll) of London.  The victory was a first for the long time Delaware Speedway spectator turned competitor.  Mike “Thrillgore” Kilgore of team Red Baron led the event early on in his first-ever event and traded the lead with Snot Rod on a number of occasions.  The Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Car Chuck Norris brought more power and a better handling car then he had in the previous competition and also took the lead through the specially designed obstacle course.  Red Baron was forced off the track within two laps to go because of tire problems.  Kazakhstan Krunch was also on hand for the event, but was unable to run the race because of mechanical issues.  The next Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Car event is Friday, July 4.

The four cylinder invitational event was won by Bill Pearsall (#38) of Puslinch.  The event was the first time Pearsall had run a four-cylinder type car at the 1/2 mile of Delaware Speedway.  Normally Pearsall is the driver behind the #38 Peterbilt of Ontario Super Stock.  The next four cylinder invitational is July 19.

The next racing event at Delaware Speedway is the rescheduled features only night this Friday, June 20!  All the weekly divisions will be in action plus a Throne Kings of the Hill Spectator’s Race!  Gates open at 6:00 PM, racing starts at 8:00 PM.
