Jesse's Journey Returns in 2008

Delaware Speedway PR

For Immediate Release

Jesse's Journey will be returning to Delaware Speedway on opening night, May 2, 2008 as part of the "Walk Across Canada in a Day" program.  The goal of the program is to fund research aimed at finding a treatment and eventual cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

This season marks the second time the event has taken place at the track. Through the Speedway's connection with Jesse's Journey, generous race fans raised almost $2,000 for the cause last season.

"We're proud to be working with Jesse's Journey again in 2008," said Delaware Speedway Public Relations director John Houghton. "It's a thrill whenever the racing community is able to come together to help out causes important to the community. We hope that even more fans participate in the program this year."

Participation in the program is easy.  On the race night, people wishing to participate can head down to the pit entrance on the front straightaway. For a donation, participants will be allowed to take a walk around the half-mile track. The distance participants cover will be added to the total kilometres tabulated at Springbank Park from walkers earlier in the day to see if participants can "Walk Across Canada in a Day".

This year there are a number of fundraising incentives for race teams. The race team that raises the most money in pledges will receive $200.00 Dyno time at Chandler Technologies and Performance Inc. The team that is runner up will receive a $100.00 gift certificate to Performance Unlimited. Race fans who raise $25 or more will receive a Walk Across Canada in a Day T-shirt. Jesse's Journey will be issuing tax receipts for donations of $20 or more.

2008 marks a milestone for the Jesse's Journey Campaign, marking the tenth anniversary of Londoner John Davidson's historic walk across Canada. To date Jesse's Journey has provided the research community with more than $2,000,000 in funding as well as the Jesse Davidson Endowment – which continues to fund research in the future approaching $7,000,000.

Opening evening at Delaware Speedway is Friday, May 2 featuring the APC Late Models, POWERADE Open-Wheel Modifieds, and Peterbilt of Ontario Super Stocks. Gates open at 6:00 PM with racing beginning at 8:00 PM.

The Delaware Speedway season itself kicks off the week before on Saturday, April 26 with an afternoon Transmission Direct Enduro 250! The day will be extra special as it will feature the series debut of the new Ultimate Sandblasting & Coating Chaos Cars. Gates open at 1:00 PM, racing beings at 2:00 PM.
